Discover PTSD Trauma Therapy at Winnicott Psychology Clinic
If you are suffering from PTSD after a traumatic event, then you can benefit from PTSD trauma therapy at Winnicott Psychology Clinic. We use evidence-based treatments such as post-traumatic stress disorder eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) to help our patients feel good again and get back to enjoying life. Talking therapies are sometimes not effective in treating deep trauma, and at worst can even re-traumatise people. We want more for our patients. That’s why our psychologists have trained in EDMR. We offer clinical treatment aimed at relieving trauma symptoms such as low self-esteem, anxiety, fear and anger so patients can enjoy the future.
Benefits of Eye Movement Therapy for PTSD
People are surprised to learn that the clinical treatment for something as terrible and life changing as a major trauma is only a brief intervention that involves very little talking as well as sets of strange eye movements. EMDR is recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for trauma, and it effectively treats people who have been suffering with the long-lasting effects of trauma. Some patients suffer their whole lives from events that occurred in their childhood. Here are some of the specific benefits of EMDR for PTSD and other problems such as addiction.
-
EMDR desensitises the feelings from the traumatic event or painful memory.
EMDR changes the way the memory of an event is encoded in your brain. Once processed, the traumatic material becomes stored without the painful feelings attached. Without the negative emotion being triggered, you no longer need to ‘cope’ with distress. Therefore symptoms of distress such as stress, anxiety, low mood or anger improve, as does the maladaptive coping mechanisms you might have developed such as avoidance, mistrust, drinking alcohol or substance abuse.
-
EMDR uses your brains amazing capacity to heal itself.
Processing trauma material with EMDR is fast. The distress experience in the processing stage is brief and reduces rapidly throughout the treatment session until you finish – experiencing no distress when thinking about the trauma event.
-
Relief for a wide range of symptoms.
EMDR can treat a variety of issues, such as PTSD, addiction, panic attacks, anxiety, relationship issues, insomnia, anger issues and more.
